May 20, 2019
With Memorial Day being the unofficial start to summer, it’s important to have the perfect refreshment while celebrating the start of everyone’s favorite season. Sinkers Wine and Beverage is your Nashville liquor store that will supply you with the cocktails to kick-off your summertime.
So whether you're spending the day out on the water, cooking out on the patio, or relaxing indoors, here are a few summertime cocktails to sip while you celebrate.
Arnold Palmer was a golf pro who might be more famous for his beverage of choice than his golfing game. We all know the half-lemonade, half-tea drink well, but have you heard of its uncle? This is a simple mix of sweet tea and lemonade vodkas. We have many brands to choose from, including Deep Eddy’s, Jeremiah Weed, and Firefly.
- 4 fl oz of Sweet Tea Vodka
- 4 fl oz of Lemon Vodka
- 4 fl oz of Lemon Lime Soda
- Lemon wedge garnish
In a pint glass, fill ice to the brim. Pour the liquor and then top with soda. Stir, garnish, and enjoy!
Peach Gin Fizz
Summers in the South are incomplete without peaches, so ring in summertime with a delicious Peach Gin Fizz. Liquor stores in Nashville stock up on peach treats for summertime, so you'll have no trouble finding what you need. But if you're feeling fancy, you can make your own peach simple syrup to put a special twist on this drink.
Simple syrup is just like the name says: simple. Dissolve 1 part water to 1 part sugar together and that’s it. To add some peach, put two pitted and sliced peaches and 1 1/2 cups simple syrup in a blender and mix until you get the consistency you want.
- 2 fl oz peach schnapps
- 2 fl oz of peach simple syrup
- 2 fl oz of gin
- 2 fl oz of soda water
In a mixing shaker, combine all the ingredients, shake, strain, and drink! If you want it to be a little thicker, skip the strainer and you'll get the extra peach pulp.
The word spritzer refreshes your tongue without even having to take a drink. However, you'll want to drink this next cocktail. It's light and fizzy and packs a gingery punch. This is perfect for sipping pool-side.
- 4 fl oz Presecco
- 1 fl oz of vodka
- 2 fl oz of ginger ale
- 1 splash of ginger juice
- 1 mint sprig for garnish
In a champagne flute, pour the liquid in and stir gently. Garnish with a mint sprig and enjoy!
This drink is a refreshing take on a Southside, but here in East Nashville, we prefer the Eastside. Grapefruit vodka and soda make a tasty treat for lazing at the lake. Served in a Collins glass, this tall drink is as pretty as it is delicious.
- 4 fl oz grapefruit vodka
- 2 fl oz club soda
- 2 fl oz lime juice
- 2 fl oz simple syrup
- 2 mint sprigs
Combine the vodka, soda, lime juice, simple syrup, ice, and a mint sprig in a shaker. Shake hard to release the mint oils from the leaves. Strain and pour over ice in a Collins glass. Garnish with the other mint sprig.
Strawberry Basil Mojito
Mojitos are like summer in a glass. You can make them one at a time, or by the pitcher-full for a party. When you're hanging out with your friends at the Decoration Day BBQ, take a moment to smell this drink. The fragrance is basil bliss! Once again, you can give it your own spin by making the strawberry simple syrup yourself. Try adding some basil to the syrup for a real kick!
- 2 fl oz white rum
- 2 fl oz strawberry simple syrup
- 1/2 fl oz lemon juice
- 3 basil leaves
- 2 fl oz soda water
- Sliced strawberries and basil leaves for garnish
Add the liquor, lemon juice, soda water, basil leaves, and ice to a mixing shaker. Shake vigorously to get the flavor out of the basil. Strain into a tall glass with ice, then garnish with basil and strawberries.
